SBI WELCOMES THE APPOINTMENT OF CABINET

July 1 2024

The Small Business Institute (SBI) welcomes the announcement of the new government of national unity by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This cabinet, providing for change and continuity, becomes the first step towards getting the wheels of government running again after the May 29 2024 general election which did not produce an outright winner.

“As the big voice for small business – from all walks of life in our country and sub-region – we promise to work collaboratively with all the ministers chosen by the President for the benefit and prosperity of our small business segment of the economy.

“We believe that the NDP aspiration of in excess of 90% of all jobs coming from this segment by 2030 will only be achieved if we redouble our efforts to unleash the potential of small businesses, and work in a focused manner to free up small businesses from the shackles of red tape, late payment and power outages and failing infrastructure,” says John Dludlu, SBI’s CEO.

“We congratulate Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams on her reappointment as minister for small business development. We look forward to working with her and her deputy Jane Sithole in deepening cooperation in this all-important portfolio,” he adds.

The SBI hopes the reform agenda, which began in the sixth administration, continues with fresh impetus. “We would like to see small business being at the core of this agenda,” says Dludlu.

“Whilst our preference would have been for a smaller administration, we recognise and respect the will of the voters who wanted a power-sharing arrangement that accommodates more than one party. This is a new institution for us all; we need to respect it and learn,” he says.

In the SBI, government has a willing and capable partner to work with.
