Dear SBI Member, colleague, and partner,
In light of the COVID-19 outbreak that has reached South Africa the SBI fully supports President Cyril Ramaphosa’s measures announced on Sunday 15 March to fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa. Accordingly, regrettably, we are postponing the SBI SME Indaba that was scheduled for 14 May 2020. We will keep a close eye on developments and communicate a new conference date when we are able to reschedule once transmission has been curtailed. Meantime, we call for emergency assistance to small businesses in this difficult time and will continue to make the voice of small business heard. Herewith a link to our press release: https://www.smallbusinessinstitute.co.za/2020/03/15/press-release-sbi-calls-on-government-and-big-businesses-to-consider-emergency-assistance-to-smes-covid-19/ We expect our business chambers will demonstrate leadership in the coming weeks, and show how important it is for businesses to come together. Our economy is already in trouble and consumers will be spending less. Certain industries, like tourism, will feel the effects of the virus acutely. During this time nothing is as important as collaboration between SMEs and big business, local government and communities to protect supply chains. We also urge all economic operators to share ideas on how you’re keeping your business operational, whilst protecting employees and customers. Sincerely, |
